Wrap Up: June 2019

These are the books I read this month! On a table...

Here it is a Wrap Up: June 2019! I did so much and could sleep for a million days if the world let me. Maybe one day…

Work

Professionally flying right now! The end is in sight as I write my way over the halfway mark of my third edit. But it’s been a slog. I didn’t edit as many chapters as I wanted to this month. Four chapters were a little ambitious considering all the other stuff going on. In the end, I finished two chapters and fleshed out an entire unexplored district of my fantasy city. So, I’m taking the win!

Away from the keyboard, I worked as a Script Supervisor on a BFI-funded short film called A Noble Truth. It’s been a while since I’ve flexed my film set muscles and I could tell I was a little rusty. **It also rained the whole time so all my supervisor notes got soaked and sad.** But nevertheless, it happened. A film got shot. And my binder bit the dust.

Books

I’m crawling back out from under my shame-brella and finished three books this month. If you want to see what I’ve read so far this year, here’s my GoodReads Reading Challenge page. I am fully aware that I’m eight books behind schedule. But don’t worry, I’ve got a plan.

This month I read The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang. Which was a beautifully illustrated, LGBTQ graphic novel set in the fashionable French Renaissance. Give it a go, if you like bubble-gum colours, cute love stories and heart-wrenching coming-of-age antics.

Also, Zodiac Starforce: Volume 1 by Kevin Panetta and Paulina Ganucheau. Another graphic novel about four kick-ass ladies with super powers saving their town from evil. Sound familiar….? No?? It’s the pitch for my novel… Pay attention! Zodiac Starforce was pretty good. Read if you like Rat Queens, Sailor Moon or stories that focus on teamwork and friendship.

Finally, Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett. I’m pretty sure I’ve read this before but I’m reading it again. Occasionally, I get the itch to romp around Discworld, tongue-in-cheek and a light heart. And, the Witches are the perfect characters to lead me.

Favourites

  1. Pocket snacks. Trail mix in the middle of a rainstorm, wholesome.
  2. Pieminister. For the first time. It saved me from sadness.
  3. Ugly. Canned sparkling water with a hint of berry. I don’t know why…
  4. My pink comb. Gets the tangles from my hair with ease.
  5. Let the Good Times Roll Face Scrub. Always impressed by Lush stuff.
  6. Sims 4 – Jungle Adventure. Late to the game, but obsessed.
  7. Love Island. Don’t judge me.
  8. Good Omens. On the theme of Terry Pratchett, this is great.
  9. Pink Razer Headphones. Because I’ve turned into a matchy matcher.
  10. Fabulous App. A healthy habit building app that’s making me read.

Goals for July

As always, finish my book. I know I sound like a broken record, but it really is all I want to do. I should have let it be the last draft and sent it out into the world but I didn’t so here I am, wading through another draft. Three chapters seem doable this month so, that’s my goal.

As well as writing, I want to read more. My goal is to read four books in July. And try to get back on track with my reading challenge. It shouldn’t be as hard as I’m making it. I love reading, I just forgot!

Health-wise, I want to try to improve my overall fitness. I’ve taken a blow to my waistband with my doughy diet (mostly due to stress eating) so that’s something I want to change.

I’m also thinking about doing a Wellness Challenge in July. So, watch out for that.
