Sketchtember an Update: tail between my legs.

Did I fail Sketchtember?

Yes. Yes. I did. I really don’t have much of an excuse except that I tried to draw cake and it looked like cheese so I got frustrated and rage quit. I’m a child. I know.

But what do you expect from me anyway? I’m just a big, old fail!

In other news: I’ve just about settled into my new home. There’s still a bunch of boxes left to unpack but I’ve got my work setup, my sleep setup and my chill setup and that’s about all we need really.

I’ve decided to turn that screenplay from my Screenplay Challenge ( I completed that by the way. See, I can finish things!) into a kid’s book. So that’s how I’ve been spending my time. Yes, that’s right, I’m being a full-time writer. 9-5. Or at least, 9 until I rage quit or burn out.

Last week I started working on an adaptation of the screenplay, I was copying it. Trying to keep it pretty much the same. It took me a couple of weeks to realise that I wasn’t having fun writing it. It was going really slowly and it felt like a horrible job. This morning I’ve been trying a new approach. Taking the spirit of the story. Rhea, Tiffin and their antics and re-working the story to make it more exciting to read. After all, this isn’t a document for a bunch of animators to go crazy with. This book is for kids to imagine this insane world I’ve created.

Just a word of writing advice. If you’re reworking a story you’ve finished, in whatever capacity, take the spirit, the message and the theme and start from scratch. Don’t copy your story. Remake it and make it better.

Thanks for reading!

P.s. I drew a logo for myself… An unofficial Sketchtember sketch.
