I DO FOOD! The Minimalist Challenge: Day 14.

Feb 17, 2017

Day 14: Take a step towards learning a new skill.

I’m going to talk about at book again. The Little Book of Hygge was an impulse purchase. I was curious about Hygge (pronounced Huu-ga I think) and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

I learnt that Hygge was a warm feeling characterised by a few signature things. You need candles, big jumpers, books, coffee in bowl sized mugs. You got to be able to switch off you electricity and enjoy something else. Another aspect of Hygge that intrigued me was the food. The role of food in a Hygge way of living is important. It’s about homemade food that’s hearty.

So back to the new skill. I’m going to bake stuff. Once a week I think. I can make a pretty good vanilla sponge but I would love to be able to make my own bread or pastries. So that’s what I’m going to focus on. My step towards learning this skill will be buying some eggs… I can’t find any recipe that I want to make that doesn’t include an egg.

I’m also wanting to learn Japanese. I love anime and I have this goal of wanting to be able to watch it without the subtitles. That would be pretty awesome. I’ve got my Japanese workbooks but they’re just gathering dust next to my A-Level Maths workbooks. I’ll have to dust them off today.

I think the difficulty with this day for me is not rushing out and buying a whole load of things to start my new skill. I love crafty things but they take up so much space and after a week I’ll discover that I don’t like it and never use them again. With baking it’s different because I know that I love it, I just don’t do it enough.

That’s all for this day!

Thanks for reading!
