Being on my own is the best but I’m my worst friend! The Minimalist Challenge: Day 8

Day 8: Learn to enjoy solitude

It’s learnt and enjoyed.

I frigging love being on my own, I can never quite be myself when I’m around people even if they’re my friends. When I’m on my own I get to go at my very slow pace, I don’t feel guilty for indulging in the things that I love doing. But here’s the things I’ve learnt from solitude.

  1. You will talk to yourself and that’s okay.
  2. You’re more impulsive. I’ve found that I’m more likely to scoff a bag of crisps or box of biscuits when I’m on my own. I also tend to spend more money when I’m on my own. And if you want to play on Sims 4 all day there’s no one there to stop you, even if you know it’s a bad idea.
  3. It can get tedious. Spending too long in solitude can get boring. Especially if you find yourself stranded (no car, shit internet), like I have a few times.

But! One of the greatest benefits of solitude is the wonderful things it does to creativity. When I’m on my own is when I make my best work.

Because I already know that I love solitude, my personal challenge for the day was to be productive in my solitude. Usually, I need my partner to force me into doing the things I need to do but today I forced myself. I can spend entire days playing on video games or watching TV series and I love doing that! But I know that it’s probably not going to help me get on in my life. So today solitude means productive solitude.

I think I’m doing it!

Even if you live a busy, social lifestyle always make time to be by yourself. You’ll be surprised how well you get on.

Today has been a giant smile.
