Lazy Girl Does "The Minimalist Challenge" - Day 3

Apr 23, 2015
Declutter your Digital Life.
I approach today’s challenge with a massive groan. The word ‘declutter’ makes me want to curl up into a tiny ball and get smaller and smaller until I’ve curled up into nothingness. I know this reaction is completely irrational but it’s because my computer, usb pens and various external hard-drives are littered many many many files with the stupidest and vaguest names in the known universe.
I’m the only one to blame for this. I have BAD writing habits. I get frustrated with a pieces of work and, instead of taking a break from it, I open a new word document and rewrite. Then the next day I’ll do the same thing.
Again and again.
Until I have nine or ten extremely similar versions of the same piece of work all with names like; “This is the right one” “This one’s better”, “This one’s better2”, “Synopsis-ish”, “Synopsis a-fucking-gain” as well as the standard “Untitled” a million times.
And this stuff goes back to 2010, which was the last time I did any ‘decluttering’. Uh.
Uh.
A good chunk of the day has gone but I’m done. It took me about 4 hours but I’m done. I’ve re-discovered the amount of half finished things lurking about my hard-drive but I’m done, for now. It feels good. That seems to be the general theme of this “minimalist challenge.’
IT FEELS GOOOOD!
Okay, I’m going to go NOT stare at screens for a while.
